FREESTYLE RULES
**All Skaters Must Comply with Regulations**
**Registration and Payment: **
All skaters are required to pay and register for freestyle sessions before participating. Skaters taking private lessons during freestyle skating are also obligated to cover the cost of the freestyle session. Skaters must not enter the ice early or stay on later than their allotted time.
**Registration Verification: **
Bellerive Ice Center will utilize the television screen at the rink entrance to verify skater registrations for freestyle ice. Skaters whose names are not displayed on the list for a specific session will not be permitted on the ice until their names appear on the television. We strongly advise skaters to register promptly, as the freestyle updates may not be immediately reflected on the television.
**Ice Etiquette: **
Skaters are prohibited from cutting across the center of the ice when entering or exiting the ice. They should proceed around the rink perimeter to deposit their skating attire.
**Parental Restrictions: **
Parents are not permitted to communicate with skaters or provide instructions from the door to the rink. Parents are also prohibited from entering hockey boxes or doorways to the ice area.
**Skill Level Requirements: **
All skaters must possess a past US Basic Skills level 6 to participate in regular freestyle skating. (An exception to this rule applies when a coach is on ice and providing a private lesson to a lower-level skater.)
**Private Lessons: **
Semi-private lessons are not permitted (except for skaters practicing duets or trios for shows). One-on-one private lessons are exclusively offered by Bellerive Ice Center authorized coaches.
**Online Lessons: **
Zoom/online virtual lessons are not generally permitted at Bellerive Ice Center. Exceptions and authorization may be made at the discretion of the Skating Director.
**Coaching Guidelines: **
All coaches at Bellerive Ice Center must be authorized by rink management. Coaches are encouraged to teach from the boards, except for demonstrations and dance patterns with the skater. Coaches are specifically prohibited from teaching from the middle of the rink or rink corners.
**Water and Food: **
Water is permitted during freestyle sessions only. Beverages such as Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Gatorade, and other non-alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Food is strictly prohibited on the ice during freestyle sessions.
**Cell Phone and iPad Usage: **
Cell phone and iPad usage on the ice is prohibited, except for video playback of jumps and other maneuvers. Skaters are required to leave the ice to make personal calls. Earbuds are not allowed. Mini/personal speakers are not permitted for skaters. Coaches may use mini speakers providing they are not played too loud and disputing other skaters during freestyles.
**Door Access: **
All doors must remain closed during freestyle skating, except when skaters are entering or exiting the ice.
**Music Usage: **
Skaters who wish to play music during their freestyle session must wear a sash to allow other skaters to make way during their program. Skaters cannot be expected to move out of the way if they choose not to wear a sash during a run-through of their program.
**Music Sign-Up Procedure: **
If you are not participating in a lesson, please sign your name on the clipboards in the “skater” section. Do not sign up again until your music has been played from the first request. Make your music run-throughs count; do not restart your music. The music order will be Coach, Coach, Skater. Coaches must upload the skater’s music in advance via the Box App. Airdrop should not be used during freestyle as it consumes excessive time.
**Skating Practice: **
Except for a skater performing their routine, spins should be practiced in the center of the rink. Ice dance patterns should not be skated with multiple skaters following each other.
**Background Music:**
Background music may be played between program run-throughs, but it should be enjoyable for all attendees and refrain from excessive profanity or be generally unsuitable for young audiences.
**Skating Attire:**
Skaters must wear their own personal figure skating skates, excluding hockey skates or hockey equipment. Clothing should be appropriate for figure skating; jeans are not permitted. Long hair must be tied back and presented in a neat manner.
**Skaters and Coaches Conduct**
Skaters and coaches are expected to always maintain a courteous and respectful demeanor. Deliberate acts of vandalism, such as kicking the boards or ice, profanity, or interference with other skaters or coaches during training sessions will result in immediate removal from the ice. Skaters and coaches who engage in excessive shouting or disrupt the training environment will be requested to reduce their conduct. Board sitting is prohibited.
**Damage to Rink Property**
Skaters and coaches who intentionally damage rink property will be indefinitely suspended from the facility until reauthorized by Bellerive Management.
**Medical Attention for Injuries**
Skaters who sustain severe falls, concussions, or injuries are required to leave the ice and seek immediate professional medical assistance. Injured skaters should contact the manager on duty and, if necessary, file an incident report.
**Group Classes**
All on and off group classes are currently managed by Val and Elana Prusky. They have full authorization to move a skater to the level which they determine is the best fit for the skaters and the smooth running of the class.
Bellerive management, staff and Coach Val Prudsky have full authority to enforce the Freestyle rules.
